Linden Street pinch point fix one step closer

Motorists travelling through a busy traffic pinch point at Sutherland are closer to seeing congestion eased along Linden Street.

The project includes adding an extra lane to Linden Street between River Road and Leonay Street to keep traffic moving, and improvements at the busy intersections of Linden Street and River Road, Linden and Leonay streets and at Linden Street and The Grand Parade.

Member for Heathcote Lee Evans said the project could reduce return travel times by up to eight minutes for around 65,000 vehicles travelling between the Woronora Bridge and the Princes Highway every day.

“The Linden Street corridor is a key east-west connection that can see traffic queues stretching back a kilometre along River Road and Woronora Bridge during peak hours,” Mr Evans said.

“The formal consultation period has wrapped up, and Transport for NSW is considering all of the feedback from the community on this important commitment.

“More than 200,000 people were reached in person, online and by letter, with hundreds having their say.”

Member for Miranda and Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads Eleni Petinos said the next step is for Transport for NSW to complete a detailed design of the project, and the community will be kept informed.

“Around 6,000 motorists and 500 bus passengers use the corridor every hour in peak periods, so it’s important we deliver safer, more reliable, and shorter trips so people can spend more time doing the things they love and less time in traffic,” Ms Petinos said.

“We have listened to community feedback about the project, and will continue to work with Sutherland Shire Council to minimise impacts on the local community through our detailed design process.”

The project is part of the NSW Government’s $450 million commitment towards removing 12 ‘pinch points’ across Sydney. Motorists and the local community will be kept updated as the project progresses.
