Project overview
The NSW Government has a plan to reduce congestion on Linden Street by adding an extra lane each way between River Road and Leonay Street, Sutherland to give you back up to eight minutes of your own time every day.

DEC 2022Continued use of the Pinnacle Street site compound
The site compound on the corner of Pinnacle Street and Sylvania Road will continue to be used until mid-2023. The site compound will be used for day and night work on the Heathcote Road Bridge and Linden Street upgrade.

NOV 2022Temporary closure of the Linden Street bus stop
A temporary closure of the Linden Street bus stop (ID 2232130) will be in place from Monday 9 January until late-March 2023, weather permitting. During the closure, work will include removing and rebuilding the existing shelter, footpath and foundation.

AUG 2022Continued work and local road improvement investigation
Work is continuing on the Linden Street upgrade, including night work occurring between 8pm and 5am Sunday to Thursday. Please view or download the August notification letter (PDF, 270Kb).
From Monday 15 August 2022, site survey, geotechnical and utilities investigation will be carried out on The Grand Parade, Oakwood Street, Leonay Street and Galga Street. This investigation work will inform a design proposal for the additional local road improvements.
We will keep the community informed on the progress of this work.
AUG 2022Closure of the footpath along River Road
The footpath on River Road between Galga Street and Oakwood Street will be permanently closed from Monday 15 August 2022, to allow utility relocations to safely occur. More information will be provided closer to the time.
Closing this section of the footpath allows room for the extra lane to be built as part of the project.
Pedestrians can travel along the footpath on Leonay Street and Oakwood Street and continue along Oakwood Street to join the River Road footpath.
Cyclists can continue to use Leonay Street and Oakwood Street to access River

The footpath on River Road between Galga Street and Oakwood Street will be permanently closed from Monday 4 July 2022, to allow utility relocations to safely occur.
Closing this section of the footpath allows room for the extra lane to be built as part of the project.
Pedestrians can travel along the footpath on Leonay Street and Oakwood Street and continue along Oakwood Street to join the River Road footpath.
Cyclists can continue to use Leonay Street and Oakwood Street to access River

Project information
The Linden Street corridor is a key east-west connection between Bangor Bypass and Princes Highway. It is used by around 6,000 motorists and 500 bus passengers an hour in peak periods and is crucial to keeping people moving around the Sutherland Shire and Greater Sydney.
To help get you where you need to be, Transport for NSW is upgrading three intersections along the corridor. These are:
- River Road and Linden Street
- Linden Street and Leonay Street
- Linden Street and The Grand Parade.
- Saving up to eight minutes on a daily return journey in busy periods between Menai and Sutherland.
- Getting traffic moving on this critical corridor by reducing congestion and improving traffic flow at this pinch point.
- Improving safety for road users.
Upgrades at River Road and Linden Street
- Road widening to provide an extra through lane for traffic heading south towards Sutherland.
- Moving the existing concrete median and traffic islands to create space for the extra lane.
- Changing the road markings on Linden Street so both lanes can turn right onto River Road to head north towards Menai.
- Removing the left turn from Linden Street into Galga Street to improve safety and reduce the risk of collision.
- Redirecting the existing footpath running alongside Linden Street through Galga Street and Oakwood Street to allow room for the extra lane.
- Adjusting the traffic light phasing to give more green light time to the busiest parts of the intersection.
- Tree removal, trimming and landscaping.
Upgrades at Linden Street and Leonay Street
- Road widening to create an extra lane for traffic traveling south on Linden Street towards Sutherland.
- Moving the existing concrete median and traffic lights to create space for the extra lane.
- Adding right-turn arrows to the Leonay Street traffic signals to allow easier and safer right turns onto Linden Street.
- Tree removal, trimming and landscaping.
Upgrades at Linden Street and The Grand Parade
- Road widening to create an extra lane for traffic traveling north on Linden Street towards Menai.
- Installing a traffic island so road users can only turn left and right out of The Grand Parade.
- Adjusting the traffic light phasing, taking the time from the through movement on The Grand Parade and giving it to the busier parts of the intersection.
- Tree removal, trimming and landscaping.
