Emu Plains Commuter Car Park
Project overview
Transport for NSW will be delivering additional commuter parking at Emu Plains Station, a joint initiative of the Australian and NSW Governments.
The project is part of the NSW Government’s Commuter Car Park Program, providing you with more convenient access to public transport at key interchanges and helping to ease congestion on our roads.
Construction of approximately 750 additional commuter parking spaces is temporarily paused following the discovery of a number of Aboriginal heritage items on site. A formal process is underway in consultation with Registered Aboriginal Parties, on the careful management of these items.
Key benefits
- a new commuter car park with up to 750 additional spaces located on vacant land to the west of Emu Plains Station, off Old Bathurst Road
- additional accessible parking spaces and motorcycle parking bays
- a new footbridge over Old Bathurst Road to provide safe and direct pedestrian access between the new car park and the station
- a new intersection on Old Bathurst Road to allow vehicle entry and exit into the car park
- landscaping including a vegetated drainage channel through the car park
- Transport Park&Ride infrastructure (Opal operated boom gates)
- provision for future electric vehicle charging spaces
- CCTV, lighting and wayfinding signage for improved safety and security.

Project update
Over the past few months, site investigations and detailed design progressed for the new commuter car park. During this time, field surveys undertaken for the Aboriginal Heritage Cultural Assessment identified additional Aboriginal heritage items on the project site. As a result, construction of the new commuter car park will be temporarily paused. A formal process is underway in consultation with Registered Aboriginal Parties, on the careful management of these items.
Next steps
Detailed design for the new commuter car park is progressing including investigations into the car park layout, footbridge and proposed roundabout. Site investigations will occur in the coming weeks in relation to the management of Aboriginal heritage items on site as well as geotechnical investigations around the station.
Keeping you up to date
Transport for NSW will keep the community informed about the project as it progresses.
