Latest news
JAN 2020Work completed
We have completed work to improve traffic flow through the intersection of Centennial Avenue and Epping Road by widening Centennial Avenue and adding a left lane on the southern approach to Centennial Avenue.
These upgrades will improve travel times and left turn movements for northbound motorists turning from Centennial Avenue onto Epping and will reduce queue lengths for motorists travelling northbound on Centennial Avenue at Epping Road.
We started work on this project in January 2019 and completed work in late 2019. Thank you to the local community for their patience and support while we undertook this work.

Project information
The NSW Government is funding this intersection upgrade as part of its $300 million Urban Roads Pinch Point Program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel times on Sydney's busiest corridors.
Currently around 3800 vehicles an hour travel through the intersection of Centennial Avenue and Epping Road in the morning and afternoon peak periods. Northbound traffic on Centennial Avenue can experience significant delays and queues of more than 400 metres in the morning peak.
Roads and Maritime proposes to improve traffic flow through the intersection by widening Centennial Avenue and changing the lane configuration of Centennial Avenue and Epping Road.
Benefits of this intersection upgrade include:
- Reduced queue lengths for motorists travelling northbound on Centennial Avenue at Epping Road
- Improved travel times and left turn movement for northbound motorists turning from Centennial Avenue onto Epping Road.
- Establishing a site compound in Turrumburra Park
- Keeping the park’s pedestrian and bicycle access open and signposting essential detours
- Diverting pedestrians using the footpaths along the park on Centennial Avenue and Epping Road
- Widening the road to add a left turn lane on the southern approach to Centennial Avenue
- Adjusting traffic lights
- Modifying street lighting
- Relocating utilities
- Modifying the traffic island
- Regrading and reinstatement of existing off-road cycle path
- Improving stormwater drainage network.
There will be temporary traffic changes during work hours to ensure the work zone is safe. Please keep to speed limits and follow signs and traffic controller directions. For the latest traffic updates, call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW app.
Roads and Maritime would like to thank everyone who took the time to consider this proposal and provide feedback.
In response to requests from the community, the consultation period was extended to Wednesday 31 January 2018.
A report summarising feedback received and responses was published in April 2018.
We will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses.
